Target of Renewable Energy

The state of Texas single handed achieved its target of producing 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity. It is fifteen years ahead of its schedule. A self governing foundation has also published a report in this regard.

These weeds are being used for a far more modern purpose. Now it could be used to advance solar power in poor rural areas. These berries have the quality to grow rapidly no matter what the season and conditions are whether it is drought, rocky or infertile soil.

Pokeberry To A Solar Cell

By squeezing juice from a berry might help us squeeze more converted energy from the sun. The poke-berry pigment or dye acts like an absorber when it is applied to fiber-based solar cells. It helps cell’s fibers to capture more sunlight and change it into power. As the berries are weed and they has the ability to grow on every continent except Antarctica.

How Cells Are Made

This process is done by coating titanium oxide nanocrystals with light-absorbing dye molecules and light strikes the dye, electrons are freed. This process creates areas of positive charge as electrons are lost and a titanium oxide particle which is a semi-conductor has the capacity to collect the electrons to an external circuit, producing an electric current. Plastic sheets are embossed with plastic fibers; making millions of tiny ‘cans’ which catch light until it is absorbed. The fibers create a huge surface area, means that sunlight can be collected at any angle from the time the sun rises until it sets.

Uses of Cell

The newly developed cells are less expensive and these fiber-based cells can generate double power which means better energy efficiency as compared to present flat cells technology. It is expected that these less expensive cells combined with another local plant will help us to produce cheap electricity to developing nations. This system could create an inexpensive and environmentally friendly method of providing electricity as the basic material used is an abundant, non-toxic, mineral i-e titanium dioxide and is commonly used in pharmaceuticals, toothpaste, cosmetics, etc

It is considered that these can be adapting for solar technology due to their natural design. Researchers of the Miami University described that purple bacteria are microscopic organisms. These are usually found in single-celled structure. These species are lived in aquatic environments and mostly found in sea corals and bottom of the lakes. These are suggested to be the good solution for harvesting solar energy due to their best structural design.

A renowned physicist, Professor Neil Johnson primarily leads the research upon purple bacteria. He suggested that its design of cellular arrangement can be adapted for solar panels utilization. Its design is more useful for the energy conversion devices especially for solar panels.

Though both of the resources have been always useful and come up with both advantages and disadvantages, here researches have thrown light on each of them and let you know what the supporters of both energy resources say to defend them. The people who support fossil fuel for generating electricity make various points in the favor of it which seems relevant and solid at fist glance but they loose their credibility later on. 1: Solar Energy is inefficient

So far solar photovoltaic panels have achieved max: 20 % efficiency.

Rebuttal: about 65% of the fuel wasted by the fossil fuel burning power plants. That means worst case scenario and according to which their efficiency is only 35%.  The fossil fuel energy has failed to achieve more efficiency whereas solar energy is improving day by day and getting more efficiency in both panels.

2: Solar Energy is costly

For instance, the Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center (FPL) costs $476 millions for generating 75 megawatts of electricity.

Rebuttal: if the adjacent 3,649 megawatt gas plant was built in today instead of 1970s then it would cost about #3.2 billion. This is 14% of the total cost of the solar panel. But factor in the fossil fuel subsidy (2.5% greater than renewable energy) and cost companion idea 35%. The factor in carbon taxes is at $15/ton and at 12 million tons for 3,700 megawatts or $180 million per year for the lifetime of the fossil fuel plant. The solar energy is on a 100/85% footing. That’s slightly costly.

Finally, the carbon factor of the extraction of natural gas and the factor of the natural gas costs are getting higher. Due to the high demand from all sectors and the absence of real regulation over racking and with the scenario where solar energy looks just as good as natural gas. One can declare the clean energy as an alternative to coal and oil.

However, most companies face the challenge here because of the rigid weather and the rough seas.

Gray Whales:

If exploration takes place on the Sakhalin Island by the Russian owned and various other multinational oil companies then this might pose a threat to the population of gray whales which are found in this region. Earlier in the 19th and the 20th century some gray whales were seen in this region, however today over 130 gray whales are believed to exist. Though this is a small number of whales but they are the only alive species of its kind and are only found in this region of the world.

Oil Exploration

Since 45 billion barrels of crude is found here, oil exploration has increased over time because of which environmental groups have come into the picture to stop the exploration because of its impact upon the whales. One major concern of exploration is the noise pollution which is generated which seen as a major problem for the gray whales

Sakhlin Energy is a joint venture which comprises of major companies such as Shell, Mitsubishi, and Mitsui. As a joint venture, all these companies have agreed to postpone their seismic testing so that they do not coincide with the peak feeding time for the whales. Agreeing with the terms of the environmental groups, Sakhlin energy also decided to relocates is planned pipeline to another location which would not disturb the whales.

However, a Russian Company by the name of Rosneft did not cooperate with the environmental group and has been working in close vicinity of the whales crucial feeding grounds. This has been an ongoing battle between the owners of the company and the International Union of Conservation of Nature. Furthermore if there is a major spill or leak then that might pose great threat to the whales and this area is also prone to powerful earthquakes.

Ways of Catching Gray Whales

Another threat to these whales is of the large fixed nets thrown by the Japanese fishermen into the sea as Japan just lies 25 miles southeast of Sakhalin. In the past, three female gray whales were caught in these nets which was a major blow to the total population of gray whales.

However, it’s just a fight against time till when companies come here for oil exploration and if the gray whales move out of this region to another place in order to be safe from being killed.
