According to a new study conducted by the UK Met Office, the world leaders have just ten years to reduce global carbon emissions, if they want to protect the planet against climate change.

The Met office warned that if prompt action was not taken soon enough, then global temperatures could rise by more than two degrees Celsius.

Vicky Pope, head of climate science at the Met Office, said that If you go to 2025 before peaking, it’s virtually impossible to stay under two degrees Celsius.

She added more saying that if you managed to reduce everything to zero immediately, you’d still get about 1.3C because of the greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere.

The report came as a result of the Met Office’s Avoid program, which was presented to world leaders at the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen.

Ministers from all over the world are attending the conference in order to discuss the course of action that should be taken to protect the planet form the potentially disastrous effects of climate change. The talks will continue till the 18th of December.
