It does sound like a dream, but the Scientists at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have finally made it come true! They have been successful to create an eco-friendly, silicon-air battery that can provide power to devices for literally thousands of hours before replacement.

Created from silicon and oxygen, the batteries are light in weight, and can work well in extremely dry conditions as well as in areas having high humidity levels. The new battery would become very useful for medical applications like hearing aids or diabetic pumps. It can also be used for several other purposes such as for microelectronics and sensors.

In order to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation on renewable energy and energy efficiency, President Barack Obama and China’s President Hu Jintao have agreed to cooperate in organizing several programs and initiatives.
One of the key programs is to establish a U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center, through an investment of $150 million in public and private funds over the next five years. The new centre will provide opportunities for joint research and development of clean energy technologies by scientists from both countries.

Global warming has been held responsible for the loss of ice shelves in Antarctica. However, according to the recent studies conducted, it can be seen that the newly-exposed areas of sea are now absorbing up some of the carbon gas, which is causing further problem.
British Antarctic Survey (BAS) done by Scientists indicated that, with very passing minute, a marine plant called phytoplankton, is gobbling the ocean’s carbon. This marine plant floats near the surface.
The phytoplankton either dies or sinks after the natural process of sucking the carbon called photosynthesis.

According to a new report, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has warned that the world has less than five years to get carbon emissions under control or the ongoing climate change will become inevitable.
Generally, the scientists do agree that the world can possibly keep temperature rises below a dangerous level of two degrees C (3.6 degrees F) if greenhouse gas emissions are halved by 2050. However, according to the new report from the WWF, this will require a "green industrial revolution" by 2014, together with heavy investment for transferring our dependence from fossil fuels to ‘low carbon alternatives’ like wind, solar, nuclear and clean coal.

In the previous post we have learned about electrons and its motion. It is understood that many type of atoms contain loose electrons that can be easily moved from one atom to another. The passage of electrons from one atom to another, creates current of electricity.
