The offshore wind turbine production facility will be build on the east coast or in the north east of England.

According to the firm, around 700 jobs will be created with the formation of the new factory. The new turbines will be up and running by 2015, aiming to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy in the UK.

Costs Of Solar Power

Although solar energy is a free and abundant resource, the generation of electricity through the PV systems is not completely free of cost. There are several factors that should be considered before deciding whether it is economical to install a PV system or not.

solar power

The first thing that should be considered is the location of your residence. People who live in the sunny areas of the world have a greater advantage as compared to those who are settled in less sunny areas.

Generating electricity from solar means is more beneficial if the electricity rates in the region where you live are particularly high.

But the main thing you should think about is the installation cost, which is the most dreadful part of the solar power generation. The basic initial cost of installation can be very high for a household. As of 2009, a residential solar panel setup cost somewhere between $8 and $10 per watt to install. The larger the system gets, lesser the cost becomes per watt.

For those chocolate lovers who believed that chocolate was the most perfect substance on Earth, another reason has arrived to love chocolates even more.

Now, cocoa bean shells that are left over after the chocolate has been made are being used as a biofuel. It’s actually happening in New Hampshire, which is also the home of chocolatier Lindt USA .

Recently, Lindt announced a partnership with Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH)  for the burning of cocoa bean shells to produce electricity from one of the three 50MW boilers at PSNH’s Schiller Station power plant in Portsmouth.

Disadvantages Of Geothermal Energy

Earlier in a post, I discussed the various advantages of geothermal energy and its effects. But the question remains that if geothermal energy is so clean and productive, then why don’t we use it commonly to generate power? Here are some disadvantages of producing power through geothermal energy to explain this.

geothermal power

The biggest disadvantages of building a geothermal energy plant is the time it takes to exploration the perfect land. While exploring the suitable place, researchers will do a land survey, which may take several years to complete. Thus if a company wishes to build a plant, it may have to wait for several years before the researchers reply whether the land is suitable or not.

Moreover, most companies that order surveys are often disappointed, as the land they were interested is incapable of supporting a geothermal energy plant. In order to extract the heat required, we have to find certain hot spots within the earths crust, which are quite common around volcanoes and fault lines, which are obviously very difficult places to build a geothermal energy plant.
