Overturn is the process of polar and temperate waters, it is rich in nutrients rising up from the depths of the ocean to replenish the cold sunken water from the top. These layers will also be mixed and churned by storms. This constant cycle keeps the areas around the poles affluent feeding places and provides nutrition for massive plankton populations throughout summer.
Where this temperature has been altered, the surface layer will not cool enough to sink, so no prizes for guessing what’s next? The shut down of this nutrient system would be devastating.
