Solar collectors are the important component of solar water heaters. There are basically three distinct types of solar water collectors that are used in solar water heaters. These types include flat-plate, integral collector storage, and evacuated tube collectors.
Comparison of Evacuated Tube with Other Collectors

These collectors are less cost-effective collectors than that of flat-plate collectors, as they cost twice the overall cost of the flat-plate collectors. These collectors reach the highest temperatures that are 170 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Flat plate collectors are not capable of heating water or air above the temperature 180 degrees Fahrenheit. The integral storage collectors utilize passive water heating techniques in only those locations where temperature of the exterior environment never reaches the freezing point.
Types of Evacuated Tube Collectors
Basically there are two main types of evacuated tube collectors.
Components of Direct Evacuated Tube Collectors
The direct flow evacuated collectors usually comprise of metal absorbers that are implanted within parallel glass tubes, and flat. The metal absorbers are also known as fins. They are connected with a header pipe. The fins absorb the sun heat and this heat shifts a fluid throughout the tubes and pipes in order to collect that heat.
Configurations of Direct Flow Evacuated Tube Collectors
These collectors are available in three different configurations. The most common configuration consists of dual piping or tubing for an inlet or outlet flow collector. Air that is accumulated between the two glass tubes that are fused together at the one corner and outlet fluid and concentric inlet is eliminated.
Heat Pipe Evacuated Tube Collector

These types of evacuated tube collectors contain a copper absorber plate that is implanted on a sealed solar tube. That copper absorber plate is installed in a hollow metal heat tube or pipe, where the fluid boils and then it evaporates in the form of steam. In this form it reaches the top of the pipe. In that pipe the water or heat shits the fluid like collects the heat, glycol and the condensed water that goes back to the bottom of that pipe. The copper absorber plate can also be implanted in other location like in an evacuated glass tube. In this location, the heat shift the fluid hat flows through the pipe or tube. The placement of heat pipe evacuated tube collector is very important. It must be placed in an angle that should allow for evaporation/vaporization and condensation of water that is heated.
Installation of Evacuated Tube Collectors
Installation of these collectors can be critical for those who are not familiar with the handling of solar panels and other equipments of solar panels. It is strongly advised to consumers to contact only expert and certified solar installers for the proper installation of evacuated tube collectors. You can contact the locally located solar contractors for installation assistance.
