Many of us are unaware of the fact that geothermal energy can be used in the form of geothermal heating and cooling, helping you not only to maintain a heating system, but also to reverse the cycle and cool your home.

Although not all geothermal heat pump designs are designed to heat and cool your home, but you can request for the option.
Geothermal Heating
In order to heat our homes, we will have to extract the geothermal energy in some way, and the most common way is to use a ground source heat pump. It has now been several years since these technologies have been around, and we can see some proven results seen in Iceland, where this method has proved to be very efficient.
Geothermal energy can be used to provide energy to under floor heating systems in order to heat a building, or certain part of a building.
Geothermal Cooling
It is also possible to employ geothermal energy systems to reverse the process of heating, i.e. to the process of cooling. This can be understood as simply a reversal of the way the water flows.
In order to cool off our home, water which absorbs heat from our homes, is pumped through the pipes buried in the ground. This allows the water to cool off while the ground absorbs this heat energy. However, some external factors such as time of day also play an important part in this role, and additives may need to be placed in the water to do this.
Thus the process of geothermal heating and cooling is interlinked, and with some specialist, you can use this greatest renewable energy source to keep your house warm as well as cool without much expenditure.
