It will soon be possible to power over 15,000 homes in London, through 100,000 tones of capital’s annual waste that will be transformed into green energy by the largest eco gas fired plant in UK.

On Tuesday, the London Waste and Recycling Board approved a funding of 12 million pounds sterling to initiate the project.
The funding will help to develop an 80 million pounds sterling waste plant which will use new, clean technology to process local waste in a more environment friendly way.
Gasification is the process, which will be used to generate the electricity. The facility will be the first of its kind in London and the largest in the UK.
Several banks have registered their interest in the plant, which is being developed by Biossence Ltd in Havering north east London.
It is expected that the new plant will create 20 permanent jobs once completed, and will convert non recyclable household waste into clean renewable electricity which will power over 15,000 local homes.
The average household in the UK uses up to 1 kilowatt of energy every hour and generates around a ton of waste every year.
Like every other country, UK is searching for innovative ways to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and landfills. The Biossence facility at Havering will treat 100,000 tones of local waste to produce a gas that will be used to generate 18MW of energy with the potential to power over 15,000 homes a year.
