President Obama recently unveiled the Florida Power and Light’s DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center. Moreover, the President has also announced the creation of an updated electrical grid.

The solar facility, which will be Florida’s second-largest, will be able to power the 2,300-household town of Arcadia.
However, as noticed by Obama and other FP&L officials, the main hindrance to the increased use of solar power is an ancient electrical grid.
This led to the announcement of $3.4 billion of funds, amazing everyone, which would be used to create a “smart grid” that would help consumers track their electrical use and provide transmission capacity for renewably generated electricity.
The Smart grid money will be distributed to 49 states and the District of Columbia in order to fund smart meter installations and projects that improve the grid’s reliability and stability. According to The Electric Power Research Institute, the smart grid technologies will reduce electricity use by 4 percent by 2030, saving over $20 billion.
