James Cook University is hosting this conference. World’s leading minds and expert personalities from the renewable energy sector will gather there to have prolific discussion over the future of solar power not only in Australia and New Zealand but throughout the world.

As the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) Dec 7 – Dec 18 -2009, is also fast approaching, so this event becomes even more significant. Australia’s solar power and renewable energy community will gain an opportunity to talk over critical role solar power can play. They will see – how can solar energy transform Australia’s energy supply to shape the future of the nation?

The event will showcase many big advancements and latest innovations in renewable energy technologies. Solar09 is aimed to provide food for thought on many issues that are influencing Australia’s alternative energy policy. Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett (TBC); the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Urban Water, Greg Hunt; Christine Milne, deputy leader of the Greens; and the Queensland Minister for Mines, Energy and Trade Stephen Robertson will present their key note addresses.

Solar09 will provide great opportunity to delegates present there so that they can learn from Olivier Drucke, president of the European Solar Thermal Energy Foundation. His speech will reveal secrets how policy-making has facilitated the development of a strong solar energy industry in European nations and how their careful planning facilitated their work. Australia will gain many valuable insights.

In the end, delegates will take a technical visit to magnetic Island, which is sponsored by Ergon Energy. They will view progress on the ‘Solar Suburb’ initiative Ergon Energy is undertaking. This project is a part of their Townsville: Queensland Solar City project.

Solar09 will be supported by the following corporate partners.

Ergon Energy

Wizard Power

Tokyo Electron Limited/Oerlikon
