German Firms Ink $3 billion U.S. Solar Plant Pact

On Monday it has been said by German thermal solar specialist Solar Millennium AG and German construction and engineering firm MAN Ferrostaal AG that they have formed a joint venture in order to build three utility-scale plants in the Southwestern U.S. which will cost about $3 billion.

Each plant will be having a capability to produce enough electricity to power about 80,000 homes.

Solar Trust of America LLC is the name given to the new venture. 70% of the new venture will be owned by The Solar Millennium AG and 30% of that venture shall be owned by MAN Ferrostaal’s U.S. subsidiary, MAN Ferrostaal Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio.

Solar Millennium’s power purchase agreements with Southern California Edison /quotes/comstock/13*!eix/quotes/nls/eix (EIX 31.66, -0.58, -1.80%)  has been obtained by Solar Trust of America to deliver up to 726 megawatts of electricity.
