Like other sources of energy are useful, wind is also a kind of energy that is very beneficial for us. Wind energy possess kinetic energy which can easily be changed into other form of energy like mechanical or electrical energy. Wind energy possess kinetic energy by which work can be done for example when a boat sails, it takes the help of wind energy.
The use of windmills is a method of old times. Farmers have been using wind energy to get water by using windmills, also that windmills helps in grinding wheat and corn by helping moving grinding stones. the use of wind energy is ancient, people have been fulfilling their needs by using wind energy, and with the growth of time wind energy is also helpful in creation of electricity.
Today we use wind energy to get electricity which is our daily basis need. fast wind helps the blades of turbine move quickly, this turbine has internal attachment with a device that makes the speed faster and is connected to a a high speed shaft that makes generator start and it created electricity. If in case the wind gets too fast, there is a danger that it can damage the blades, to control this condition the turbine carries a brake that controls the blades to move too fast. In many towns those are not near cities, a small wind turbine is commonly used, the small turbine means it can be used to supply electricity that is sufficient for a house, a school or a particular place. the wind turbine possess enough energy to supply electricity to entire house or school where it is located. There are many windy areas in California, and also wind is in every part of the world. Some places are very windy as compared to other regions and also that wind doesn’t blow every time in every region. this is the biggest issue wind creates, like in California, its more windy in summer time to replace the hot air from the warm valleys and desserts of California.
For a wind turbine to work properly, it needs wind speed of 12 to 14 miles per hour. a wind turbine usually needs this much of speed to create electricity, as the wind turbine commonly produces 50 to 300 kilowatts electricity. A thousand watt can give light to ten 100 watt light bulbs, so with 300 kilowatts you can light up 3000 light bulbs of 100 watts. to get wind energy, there are is a place called wind farm, it is a place where there are many wind turbines located in groups to produce electricity. these wind farms are created in the windy regions of the city like those in Palm Springs and Altamont Pass in east San Francisco. California is well known for its electricity production through wind energy in the world, it covers around 11 percent of the electricity production through wind energy of the world.once the electricity is produced, it is then collected together and sent to the areas for utility, the voltage is made high so that the electricity travels long distances. other countries that also use wind energy in abundance are Germany and Denmark.
